Adaptation! Adaptación!

This week we learned about animals that adapt to the seasonal changes. We found that some animals grow thick fur to protect them from the cold weather but, some like the small field mice dig holes into the ground and stay there until spring, only coming out occasionally to find food. We drew pictures of these little creatures and cut out mittens that we decorated with different patterns and colors. One of the books we read this week was "The gingerbread man". We baked gingerbread cookies and ate them for snack. And on Friday, Santa Claus visited our classroom. We will continue our study on winter during the first week of January. Mr. Tommy and I would like to wish only the best for our families in the coming year. Enjoy the Holidays!

Esta semana aprendimos acerca animales que se adaptan a los cambios de la estaciones. Encontramos que algunos animales crecen  gruesa piel para protegerse de frio clima pero, algunos pequeños animales como ratones escavan huecos en el suelo and se quedan ahí hasta la primavera, solo salen ocasionalmente a encontrar comida. Dibujamos estas pequeñas criaturas y cortamos manoplas y las decoramos con diferentes patrones y colores. Uno de los libros que leímos esta semana fue “el hombre de jengibre”. Horneamos jengibre galletas  y las comimos en la merienda. El viernes, Santa Claus visito nuestro salón. Continuaremos nuestro estudio en invierno durante la primera semana de enero. Sr. Tommy y yo nos gustaría desearles  lo mejor a nuestras familias en este venidero ano. Disfruten las fiestas!

 

Migration! Migración!

This week we learned about animals that migrate during the winter time. We learned that monarch butterflies migrate over 2000 miles during the winter time. The monarch butterfly and some birds fly south in search of shelter and a warm place to spend the winter. Some fly as far as Mexico and Panama City. We painted pictures of beautiful butterflies and made bird feeders for the birds that stayed around during the winter. Next week we will talk about animals that adapt to the cold weather. Thanks to Richard's family for bringing the pet bird to our class.

Esta semana aprendimos acerca los animales que migran durante el invierno. Aprendimos que monarca mariposas migran cerca de 2000 millas durante el invierno. Las monarcas mariposas y algunos pagaros vuelan hacia el sur en busca de un lugar caliente para pasar el invierno. Alguno vuela hacia México y cuidad de Panamá. Pintamos hermosas mariposa y hicimos alimentadores para los pájaros que se quedan alredor durante el invierno. La próxima semana hablaremos acerca de los animales que se adapta durante el mes de invierno. Gracias a la familia de Richard por traer su mascota un pájaro a nuestra clase.

Hibernation!Hibernación

This week we started our study on winter animals. We learned that some animals simply sleep during the entire winter season and reappear at the beginning of spring. Animals that hibernate are trying to stay warm and safe until springtime. This week we drew bears, and painted animals that hibernate during winter.  We used unifix cubes to measure the bear’s height and, we built caves for bears at block center. We also helped Ms.Sabrina' class this week. We bought fresh lemonade from her children's lemonade stand. Thanks for inviting us. It was refreshing!. Next week, we will learn about animals that migrate during the winter time.

Esta semana empezamos nuestro estudio en los animales y el invierno. Aprendimos que algunos animales simplemente duermen durante el todo el invierno y aparecen al principio de la primavera. Animales que hibernan trata de estar caliente y seguro hasta la primavera. Esta semana dibujamos osos, y pintamos animales que hibernan durante el invierno. Usamos unifix cubos para medir la altura de los osos, construimos cuevas para los osos en centro de bloques. También ayudamos a la clase de Ms. Sabrena esta semana. Compramos fresca limonada en el puesto de limonada que los niños organizaron. Gracias por invitarnos. Fue refrescante! La próxima semana, aprenderemos acerca de los animales que migran durante la estación del invierno.

 

  

Around the world! Alrededor del mundo!

This week was a celebration of various cultures around the world. We learned a little bit about the 7 continents and their many cultures. We learned about Mexican traditional clothes and food. We tastes delicious mole negro and tamales. We made Korean fans and views pictures of traditional clothes; the dresses are called hanboks. We also explored the African continent. We made beautiful necklaces from republic of Congo and we learned Khamsa, good luck hand from morocco. In addition, we enjoyed traditional food morocco and learned about mosaic. Jordan, a country found in the Middle East is well known for their beautiful and traditional mosaics. This mosaic represents their culture and beliefs.

Esta semana fue una semana de celebración de varias culturas alrededor del mundo. Aprendimos un poquito acerca de los 7 continentes y sus muchas culturas. Aprendimos acerca la ropa tradicional de México y su comida. Probamos un delicioso mole negro y tamales. Hicimos unos abanicos coreanos y vimos fotos de la ropa tradicional de Corea, el vestido tradicional se llama hanboks. Exploramos el continente de África. Hicimos unos bellos collares tradicionales de republica de Congo y aprendimos acerca Khamsa, la mano de la buena suerte usada en Morrocó. Adicionalmente disfrutamos comida tradicional de Morrocó y aprendimos acerca los mosaicos. Jordán, es un país localizado en el medio oriente y es conocidos por sus bellos y tradicionales  mosaicos. Estos mosaicos representas su cultura y creencias.

Families! Familias!

This week we discussed things families do together. The children created a family flag that explains what they do for fun, how they help each other around the house, and why they love their families. The children sorted M & M’s by color and number, a very good learning activity. Many thank to the parents for sharing information about their country and cultural experiences with us. Next week we will learn about our family background and families around the world.  

Esta semana discutimos acerca que hacen las familias. Los niños crearon banderas que explican que hacen  su familias para divertirse, que hacen para ayudar en sus hogares y porque aman a sus familias. Los niños clasificaron M & M’s por el color y contaron, una buena actividad y muy dulce. Muchas gracias a los padres que compartieron información acerca de su país y cultura experiencias con nosotros. La semana que viene aprenderemos acerca de las pasadas experiencia de nuestra familia y alrededor del mundo.
